About Alacrity

Ian has been producing custom and bespoke metalwork for more than 30 years, handcrafting all commissions personally, he creates both contemporary and traditional designs. The work Ian has produced, such as Bronze castings, memorial and commemorative plaques, can be found all over the country at many public open spaces and in private collections.

He first served his apprenticeship as a hand engraver at Webbus Engraving in London from 1967. He then moved to AP Engraving and it was there, he began to specialise in Chemical Etching. Ian then worked for a number of years at F.T Myerson, Engineering and Welding working on Stainless Steel fabrication and welding.

More recently, he has lived, and worked in Essex for more than 20 years. His workshop and office is located near the coast and as such, he is often commissioned to make bespoke fittings for yachts and motor vessels. Most yacht fittings are made from stainless steel or bronze, they are either cast or welded and can be hand polished. On occasions he has produced, on request, galvanised iron fittings. Ian is able to provide guidance and advice on pattern making and hand finishing in addition to the most suitable design and materials ahead of the manufacturing process.

Details of Work

I work with a number of companies who frequently compliment the work I produce for them. Many of these companies I have worked with repeatedly over a number of years and they return to me due to the specialist and personal service I can provide.

I am able to create C.A.D programmes for laser and water cutting, also for CNC turning and engraving. These programmes can also be used to produce copper electrodes for spark eroding.

I produce casting patterns ‘in house’ for brass, bronze, aluminium and S.G Iron. When cast, all pieces are then hand finished in my workshop personally. Commemorative and memorial plaques can either be manufactured by casting or by Chemical Etching – I have many years of experience in developing both.
